No Rohit, Kohli as BCCI Names Squad for Three-Match T20I Series Against South Africa

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain for the three-match T20I series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday, November 30, announced a 17-member squad for the three-match T20 series against South Africa, starting on December 10 in Durban.

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain of the team, as Rohit Sharma has decided to take a break from white-ball cricket, and Hardik Pandya is currently recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during the ODI World Cup 2023.

Apart from Mohammed Siraj making a comeback, the squad for the South Africa series closely aligns with the team currently in action for the T20 series against Australia.

In addition to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and other senior players such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, have also opted for a break from white-ball cricket. Hence, they have not been selected for the three-match T20I series.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 just seven months away and set to be co hosted by the Caribbean and USA, the management is currently outlining the plan. Whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be part of this prestigious tournament remains to be seen.
