‘No Retentions in IPL 2025 Mega Auction’ – KKR CEO Venky Mysore Calls for Fresh Start

Venky Mysore, however, suggests having 8 RTMs for all teams in IPL 2025 mega auction.

Ahead of the much-anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has put forth a novel proposition.

He suggests a system where franchises receive eight Right To Match (RTM) cards instead of the traditional player retention system.

This proposal comes following KKR’s dominant performance in IPL 2024. They not only clinched the championship title against Hyderabad by a convincing eight-wicket margin but also ruled the league stage, finishing atop the points table.

The current format requires teams to release a certain number of players before the mega auction and retain a select few. Mysore’s suggestion, however, presents a unique alternative.

With eight RTM cards, teams could secure the services of their core players while still allowing them to enter the auction and potentially fetch their deserved market value.

This, according to Mysore, creates a win-win situation for both players and franchises.

Here’s what Venky Mysore told Harsha Bhogle:

“Venky Mysore has suggested an idea ahead of mega auction with 8 RTM but no retentions as it’s a win-win situation: Player, who will get their deserving market value & teams can pick their players as well.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already confirmed a mega auction for IPL 2025. Traditionally, this has involved a player retention window with limitations on the number of players each team can retain.
