MS Dhoni Sets A Condition to Play for CSK in IPL 2025

MS Dhoni had a conversation with the CSK owner N Srinivasan.

Although the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is still nine months away, speculation regarding the participation of the legendary MS Dhoni has already started, and CSK fans are eager to know if he will return for the next season.

Notably, MS Dhoni, who has been playing the last two seasons with an injury and has not been at his best in terms of fitness, is believed to be considering a return in IPL 2025 under one condition: the number of retentions allowed.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, MS Dhoni has spoken to the owner of Chennai Super Kings, N Srinivasan, and stated that if the number of retentions for the IPL 2025 mega auction is around five or six, he will play in the next IPL.

However, if the retentions come down to four, the chances of MS Dhoni playing in the next season are bleak. In 2018, the number of retentions was five, while it came down to four in the 2022 mega auction.

MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in 2023 and then relinquished the IPL captaincy just ahead of the 2024 season, handing the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, under whom the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.

MS Dhoni has always been an important part of Chennai Super Kings, and if he decides to hang up his boots and not participate in IPL 2025, it will be interesting to see if the Chennai Super Kings management can convince him to join the team in some other capacity.
