MLC 2023: Ambati Rayudu Opts Out of Texas Super Kings Squad Citing Personal Reasons
Ambati Rayudu will not participate in the inaugural season of the Major League Cricket.
Ahead of the inaugural season of the Major League Cricket (MLC), the Texas Super Kings have confirmed that the former India batter Ambati Rayudu will not participate in the tournament this year.
Rayudu, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title, has opted out of the brand-new franchise-based league owing to personal reasons.
Notably, Rayudu was part of the CSK side this year and his retirement announcement prior to the IPL 2023 final made him eligible to participate in overseas leagues. However, now he has pulled out of the tournament owing to personal reasons.
The development comes following BCCI’s ongoing discussions regarding the implementation of a cooling-off period to prevent the trend of “pre-determined” retirement of Indian players.
“We’ll come out with a policy to prevent the trend of pre-determined retirement. The office bearers will make a policy and send it back for approval,” the BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.
Under the current guidelines, Indian players who are still actively playing are restricted from participating in overseas leagues, whereas retired players are permitted to do so.
“Ambati Rayudu will not be available to participate in the first season of the MLC with Texas Super Kings due to personal reasons,” Texas Super Kings said in a statement.
Owned by the Chennai Super Kings franchise, the Texas Super Kings will commence their campaign against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the inaugural match of MLC 2023 at the Grand Prairie in Texas on July 13.
