Mitchell Marsh Smashes Maiden IPL Ton, Becomes First Overseas Centurion of 2025
Mitchell Marsh scored his first-ever IPL century and became the first overseas player to hit a hundred in the 2025 season.
Mitchell Marsh lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, May 22, as he smashed his first IPL hundred while playing for Lucknow Super Giants against Gujarat Titans. With this special knock, Marsh also became the first overseas player to score a century in the IPL 2025 season.
Marsh, who had already scored 443 runs in 12 matches before this game, brought up his hundred in just 56 balls. The Australian all-rounder was in top form, hitting 10 fours and six sixes to reach the three-figure mark.
He went on to score 117 runs in just 64 balls before getting dismissed by Arshad Khan in the 19th over. His explosive batting helped Lucknow Super Giants post a massive total of 235/2.
The opener showed complete control against both pace and spin. One of the biggest highlights of his innings was the way he attacked Rashid Khan. Marsh hammered the Afghanistan leg-spinner for 25 runs in an over, smashing two sixes and three boundaries to completely disrupt Gujarat’s bowling plans.
During the powerplay, Marsh made full use of the fielding restrictions and took the attack to Gujarat’s bowlers. He shared a 91-run opening stand with Aiden Markram, who scored 36 off 24.
After that, Marsh stitched a blistering 121-run partnership with Nicholas Pooran in just 51 balls, taking the LSG innings to the next level.
Despite his outstanding performance, Marsh kept his celebration simple. After reaching his hundred, he just raised his bat and gave a thumbs-up to the LSG dugout. The Ahmedabad crowd and his teammates responded with a standing ovation for the Aussie star.
With this ton, Marsh joined an elite list of Australians to score an IPL hundred. He became the 11th Australian to do so, entering a group that includes Adam Gilchrist, David Warner, Steve Smith, and Shane Watson.
Marsh also became the fourth centurion for Lucknow Super Giants after KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Quinton de Kock. De Kock remains the only LSG batter with more than one hundred in the tournament’s history.
Unfortunately for LSG, the knock came a little too late. The team had already been knocked out of the playoff race after a defeat to SunRisers Hyderabad earlier this week. Still, Marsh’s innings was a treat to watch and gave LSG fans something to cheer for in their final matches.
