Kumar Sangakkara to Replace Gautam Gambhir As KKR Mentor in IPL 2025
Kumar Sangakkara is expected to replace Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of KKR.
Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lanka captain, will replace Gautam Gambhir as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to a report in The Telegraph, talks are ongoing between the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise and Kumar Sangakkara about the mentoring role.
This role opened up when Gambhir was named the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. He took over from Rahul Dravid, stepping into the role after the national team’s T20 World Cup success.
Gambhir, who was the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons, joined the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2024 season.
The team’s third IPL title marked a successful outcome of his addition. Gambhir, who had previously captained KKR to two titles, was instrumental in their latest win.
Rahul Dravid Joins Rajasthan Royals
Sangakkara, who has been the Director of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals since 2021, is expected to step down from the role. This comes after the team’s appointment of Rahul Dravid as head coach for the 2025 IPL season.
According to reports, Vikram Rathour, who worked with Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff for India, is likely to join Rajasthan Royals as a coach. While an official announcement is still pending, these changes are expected to be confirmed shortly.
