Rahul got to his hundred in classic style, nudging a single in the final over before lunch to move to 98, then calmly completing the milestone just after the break. He reached his century off 176 balls, but was dismissed the very next delivery for exactly 100 by Shoaib Bashir.

This was Rahul’s second century of the series and his second at Lord’s, putting him in rare company. Only Dilip Vengsarkar has scored more than one Test hundred at Lord’s for India, with three tons in 1979, 1982, and 1986.

Rahul’s first hundred at the venue came in 2021, when he made 129 in India’s famous 151-run win.

In this innings, Rahul played the anchor role. He got to his fifty late on Day 2 in 97 balls and remained steady as India lost wickets at the other end. His partnership with Rishabh Pant, who batted despite a keeping injury, helped India rebuild after a middle-order wobble.

Pant was eventually run out for 74 by a direct hit from Ben Stokes, but his stand with Rahul ensured India reached 316/5 at Tea on Day 3.
