KL Rahul Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record, Becomes Fastest Indian to Reach Milestone in T20 Cricket
KL Rahul becomes fastest Indian to 8,000 T20 runs

KL Rahul has been in red-hot form in IPL 2025, and on Thursday night against Gujarat Titans, he reached a huge personal milestone. The Delhi Capitals skipper smashed a brilliant 112 off just 65 balls, marking his first century of the season. His knock included 14 boundaries and 4 sixes, and he brought up his half-century in 35 balls.
While his individual brilliance lit up the evening, it wasn’t enough for the team. Delhi Capitals, despite Rahul’s century, suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat. They posted 199/3 in their 20 overs, but the Titans chased it down without losing a wicket, exposing DC’s bowling struggles once again.
Even in the face of that loss, Rahul’s achievement stood tall. With this knock, he crossed the 8,000-run mark in T20 cricket. More importantly, he became the fastest Indian to get there, doing it in just 224 innings. In the process, he overtook Virat Kohli, who reached the same mark in 243 innings. Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina follow with 277 and 284 innings respectively.
Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals ahead of this season for ₹14 crore, and he has lived up to the expectations. He is closing in on 500 runs this season already, with one century and three half-centuries to his name. His consistency at the top of the order has been one of the few bright spots for DC in what has otherwise been a mixed campaign.
This isn’t the first time Rahul has shown his class in the IPL. But this season, he has looked more fluent and aggressive from the start. His ability to switch gears mid-innings and anchor the side is proving valuable, even though the results haven’t always gone DC’s way.
With a few games still left in the league stage, Rahul will be key to Delhi’s hopes of turning things around. But regardless of how the team finishes, KL Rahul’s record as the fastest Indian to 8,000 T20 runs is a moment to remember.
