KKR Released Player List Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction
KKR to release Venkatesh Iyer, de Kock, and others ahead of IPL 2026 auction, retaining Russell, Narine, and Rinku Singh.
After finishing eighth in IPL 2025, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are preparing for a major squad reshuffle before the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The two-time champions are expected to release several high-priced and underperforming players to free up salary cap space and rebuild a more consistent, flexible lineup.
With the retention deadline set for November 15, 2025, the KKR management is expected to take tough calls on a few big names, focusing on younger, in-form domestic players and dependable overseas performers.
KKR Likely Released Players for IPL 2026 and Reasons
The most notable player expected to be released is Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought for a massive ₹23.75 crore but managed only 142 runs in 11 matches during the 2025 season. His struggles with both consistency and intent made him one of the most disappointing buys of the year.
Among overseas players, Quinton de Kock could also face the axe after scoring just 152 runs in eight matches. His lack of form at the top and struggles in Indian conditions pushed KKR to try multiple combinations without success.
South African pacer Anrich Nortje, bought for ₹6.5 crore, is another likely exit due to persistent injury issues that limited him to only two appearances in 2025. Similarly, Moeen Ali and Rovman Powell, both seasoned campaigners, failed to make significant contributions and could be released as part of the squad revamp.
Ajinkya Rahane, who captained KKR during their disappointing 2025 season, is also expected to be released as the franchise looks to reset its leadership and batting core. Australian pacer Spencer Johnson, signed as a high-cost replacement for Mitchell Starc, didn’t deliver the expected results and may not be retained either.
Despite the overhaul, KKR are likely to retain a solid mix of proven performers. Their Indian core, including Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, and Harshit Rana, will form the team’s foundation going forward.
Veteran all-rounders Andre Russell and Sunil Narine remain integral to KKR’s setup and are expected to be retained for their experience, impact, and leadership influence.
