Jasprit Bumrah Reveals How Mumbai Indians Signed Him

Jasprit Bumrah is currently the second highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians.

The Indian fast-bowling legend, Jasprit Bumrah shared a story of how he got a contract from Mumbai Indians.

Bumrah, originally from Ahmedabad revealed that MI’s talent scout John Wright spotted him during a domestic T20 match between Gujarat against Mumbai. Despite a modest performance, Bumrah was singled out after taking just one wicket.

However, Bumrah’s tight bowling economy impressed Wright, despite not taking many wickets. Bumrah recalled his Gujarat teammate, Parthiv Patel, mentioning MI’s interest in him. However, the 27-year-old initially shrugged off Parthiv’s comment, thinking it was just teasing.

It finally sank in for Bumrah that he was going to play in the IPL when he got a call from Mumbai Indians.

“After a few days, I got a call from the Mumbai Indians and they asked me, ‘Are you interested?’ I said, ‘Of course, I am interested, that’s not even a question. Are you guys interested?’” Bumrah had told Sky Sports.

Currently, Bumrah is the second highest wicket-taker (148) for Mumbai Indians in IPL, only lagging behind the Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga (195).
