In a recent conversation with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra, the South African legend called Brevis a promising 360-degree player, drawing comparisons to his own style of play.

“From South Africa, I would say Dewald Brevis. He wears number 17, plays attacking cricket, and still has a lot to learn. He is playing for CSK and not RCB, that is a shame,” de Villiers said.

Brevis, 22, made his international debut in 2023 and has represented South Africa in two Tests and seven T20Is so far.

In IPL 2025, he played his third season after coming in as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, scoring 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 for CSK.

He was also part of South Africa’s squad in the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Nation Series, where he crossed the 30-run mark four times in six games while striking at 187.

He is expected to feature in South Africa’s upcoming white-ball series against Australia starting August 10 in Darwin.
