IPL 2025: Punjab Kings Knock Out Mumbai Indians to Set Up All-New Final Against RCB

A new IPL winner will be crowned as Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians to set up a final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) stunned Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-pressure Qualifier 2 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium to book their place in the IPL 2025 final.

This win has set up a grand finale between two teams that have never lifted the IPL trophy: PBKS and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Rain Delay Doesn’t Stop PBKS Momentum

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. The match was delayed by over an hour due to rain, but the full 20 overs were still allowed for each side. Punjab got an early breakthrough by dismissing Rohit Sharma, but MI rebuilt quickly with solid contributions from Jonny Bairstow, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Naman Dhir Pushes MI Past 200

Mumbai’s innings received a strong finish thanks to a quickfire 37 off 18 balls by Naman Dhir. His late hitting ensured that MI posted a challenging total of 202 runs in 20 overs.

Shreyas Iyer Leads From The Front

In reply, Punjab lost Prabhsimran Singh early, but Josh Inglis and Priyansh Arya kept the chase moving. After their departure, Nehal Wadhera played a steady knock of 48 runs from 29 balls. The real hero of the night, however, was captain Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer held the innings together and stayed unbeaten till the end, guiding PBKS to a record chase and keeping their title hopes alive.

History Made – A New IPL Champion Awaits

This is the first time in IPL history that Mumbai Indians have failed to defend a 200-plus total. Punjab Kings will now meet RCB in the final on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. As neither team has won an IPL title before, IPL 2025 will see a brand new champion crowned.
