IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar Requests for Bigger Boundaries to Avoid High-Scoring Games
Sunil Gavaskar has requested to extend the boundary ropes to avoid 250+ scores.

Amid all the high-scoring encounters in the ongoing season, former Indian captain and legend Sunil Gavaskar has suggested enlarging boundaries in IPL 2024 to avoid regular scores of 200 plus.
Gavaskar made this statement after Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 266 runs on the board, marking the fourth time a score of 250 plus has been achieved this season.
Out of these four occasions, Sunrisers Hyderabad accomplished it three times, with Kolkata Knight Riders achieving it once.
Here’s what Sunil Gavaskar said during a conversation with Star Sports:
“This kind of hatting is entertainment to some extent, but it’s too much after that. I don’t want to use that word, but the boundaries should be extended to 3-4m, it’ll make a difference.”
While the pitch has played a significant role in the high-scoring encounters this IPL season, credit should also be given to the aggressive mindset of the batters. They have not feared the bowlers and have been attacking them from the word go.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, in particular, is one of the most dangerous teams in terms of batting, with players like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abdul Samad consistently showing great form and breaking records.
While extending the boundary might help the bowlers somewhat, one thing is for sure: batters who believe in power-hitting and an aggressive mindset will not curb their batting style.
