IPL 2024: Pat Cummins Takes Back ‘Obstruction of Field’ Appeal Against Ravindra Jadeja, Kaif Calls It A Tactical Move To Keep Dhoni Indoors
Mohammad Kaif Questioned on Pat Cummins' Withdrawal of Obstructing the Field Appeal in SRH vs CSK
Pat Cummins, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), abstained from appealing for Ravindra Jadeja’s ‘Obstructing the field’ dismissal in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai on April 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Tension brewed in the 19th over of CSK’s innings, with the possibility of controversy had SRH chosen to appeal against Jadeja, but they refrained from doing so.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar executed a yorker, and Jadeja drove the ball into the ground. When the bowler noticed the batter outside the crease, he made an attempt to break the stumps.
However, Jadeja interfered with the throw line, as pointed out by Heinrich Klaasen. Yet, Pat Cummins, the SRH skipper, opted against lodging an appeal. If Cummins and SRH had appealed, the decision would have been referred to the third umpire, Bruce Oxenford, to take a call on Jadeja’s dismissal.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif weighed in on the controversy, pondering how Pat Cummins would have acted if it were Virat Kohli instead of Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.
Kaif suggested that Cummins’ decision to let Jadeja stay at the crease, despite the circumstances, might have been a tactical ploy to keep MS Dhoni off the field. Taking to X, here’s what Mohammad Kaif wrote:
“Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at World T20?”
