IPL 2024: ‘Nobody is Batting for Themselves in KKR’ – Phil Salt Takes a Dig at Virat Kohli’s Orange Cap?
According to Phil Salt, the orange cap isn't on the minds of anyone in the KKR lineup.
The Kolkata Knight Riders opener, Phil Salt, has opened up about the team’s strategy, especially regarding the batting lineup and how they have been able to post big totals in the IPL 2024.
Phil Salt himself has been in a purple patch, providing a good start to the team by partnering with Sunil Narine, who has been promoted as an opener ever since Gautam Gambhir took over as KKR’s mentor.
Salt has managed to score 102 runs in just four matches at a strike rate of around 140. His 86-run partnership with Sunil Narine against RCB was particularly impressive as it helped KKR easily chase down the target and win the game by seven wickets.
Speaking about KKR’s batting strategy, Phil Salt said that each player is focused on putting the team’s interests first before their individual scores, and no one is chasing the orange cap, which ultimately works in favour of the team.
“Nobody is batting for themselves and nobody is saying, ‘I’m going to have the orange cap at the end’. Nobody in the dressing room thinks about that, which makes it such a good batting group to be part of because everybody is aligned to the same goal,” Salt told ESPNCricinfo.
Who currently holds the Orange Cap?
The RCB batting maestro, Virat Kohli, is currently the leading scorer of the tournament, holding the orange cap with 319 runs to his name in six matches at a strike rate of 141.
The 35-year-old has also scored a century against Rajasthan Royals recently. Even though Virat Kohli remains the cornerstone of RCB’s batting lineup this season, he has faced relentless scrutiny, particularly regarding his strike rate.
