IPL 2024: Matheesha Pathirana’s Last Wish As He Leaves CSK Midseason Due to Injury
Matheesha Pathirana shares a special message for CSK
Chennai Super Kings pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2024 season due to a hamstring injury.
The Sri Lankan fast bowler was one of the best performers with the ball for Chennai Super Kings, emerging as their second-highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps in just six matches.
Pathirana missed CSK’s recent encounter against Punjab Kings, and the team confirmed his injury on May 5th.
This is a significant blow for the reigning champions, who heavily relied on Pathirana’s ability to restrict runs and provide breakthroughs in critical situations.
Taking to Instagram, Pathirana expressed his disappointment at leaving the tournament early but wished to see the IPL trophy back in the CSK dressing room.
Here’s what Pathirana wrote on Instagram:
“A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon! Grateful to the CSK team for all the blessings and love from Chennai.”
Matheesha Pathirana will now focus on recovering from the injury in Sri Lanka, with hopes of making the national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
This development might also delay Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad announcement as they wait for Pathirana’s full recovery and assess his fitness before finalising the team.
