IPL 2024: Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande Injured? Here’s Why They Aren’t Playing Against Punjab Kings Today
Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande are not playing against Punjab Kings due to health issues
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be without their key fast bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande for their 10th game of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad confirmed at the toss that Pathirana is suffering from a niggle, while Deshpande is currently unwell.
This is a significant blow for CSK, as Pathirana has emerged as their go-to wicket-taker, consistently delivering crucial breakthroughs. While Deshpande might not always be the most economical bowler, he has a knack for picking up wickets.
Here’s what Ruturaj Gaikwas said during the toss:
“We would have fielded first, but we weren’t exactly sure. Always tough defending here with a lot of dew, but the fact that we won by 78 runs shows a lot about the team, but we’ll be missing out Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande today. We’ll have to get there early and make a good score. Every game is important.”
With these key players out, Shardul Thakur will likely shoulder a heavier workload, while Richard Gleeson is expected to make his IPL debut for CSK. This will undoubtedly test CSK’s bowling depth as they strive to maintain their position in the IPL 2024 playoff race.
