IPL 2024: Indian Players Rich, Don’t Need to Play in Poor Countries’ T20 Leagues: Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag also revealed how he once declined an offer from BBL.

Ex-Indian cricket icon, Virender Sehwag, is renowned for his explosive batting and outspoken nature. During a recent conversation with Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, Sehwag revealed that once he declined from the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.

During the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Gilchrist asked Virender Sehwag about the possibility of Indian players participating in T20 leagues outside of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sehwag’s reply was typically candid, stating that Indian cricketers are ‘rich’ and have no requirement to play in other ‘poor’ countries.

“No, Don’t need, we are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries for other leagues,” Sehwag said.

Sehwag then revealed an incident when a BBL franchise offered him a contract after he was dropped from the Indian team. Despite the lucrative USD 100,000 offer, Sehwag laughed it off, stating he could easily spend that amount on his vacations.

“I still remember when I was dropped from the Indian team, I was playing IPL, then I got an offer from BBL that I should participate in Big Bash, I said okay how much money, they said $100,000. I said I can spend that money on my holidays, even though last night’s bill was more than $100,000,” Sehwag added.
