IPL 2024: Ian Bishop Apologises for Overhyping Virat Kohli’s Slow Knock Against RR

Ian Bishop has admitted to overhyping Virat Kohli's slower-than-usual half-century against Rajasthan Royals and has since apologized.

Ex-West Indian cricket legend and current commentator Ian Bishop issued an apology for commending Virat Kohli‘s half-century in the recent IPL 2024 encounter between RCB and Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

It all happened when a Twitter user pointed out to Ian Bishop, stating that he cannot say that Virat Kohli completed his half-century in ‘just’ 39 balls, as it is a T20 format and completing a half-century in 39 balls should not be considered as an achievement.

Taking to X, here’s what Ian Bishop replied:

“I take an “L” on that one. I am very aware of what T20 batting entails, and my insertion of that word was inaccurate. My choice of words and language in keeping with the format of the game needs to be more accurate and it will be going forward. Apologies.”

Virat Kohli Under Scrutiny After Scoring Slowest Century of IPL History

Meanwhile, there’s been widespread criticism directed at Virat Kohli for his century off 67 balls, marking it as a joint slowest century in IPL history on Saturday. Some voices even suggested that Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost the game due to Kohli’s slow knock.

Virat Kohli finished unbeaten on 113 runs from 72 balls as RCB posted 183 runs on the board, losing only two wickets in their allotted 20 overs. However, the batting giant stated after the innings that the pitch seemed sluggish, a sentiment contradicted by Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler who effortlessly attacked the RCB bowlers, chasing down the target in 19.1 overs, with Buttler smashing a spectacular century.
