IPL 2023 Likely to Start From April 1st: Reports
IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place in December.
The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start on either March 31 or April 1 next year, Cricbuzz reported.
The IPL 2023 mini-auction is scheduled to take place in Kochi on December 23, but the tournament’s commencement date is yet to be announced officially.
The final decision of the IPL 2023 start date is expected to be taken during the IPL GC meeting, which is expected to take place before the auction.
The IPL is likely to be wrapped up by May as the final of the ICC World Test Championship is scheduled to take place in the first week of June with India as one of the favourites for the game.
If India qualifies for the WTC final, then the players most probably would be exhausted as the WTC final is considered to take place on 07th June.
IPL 2023 To Follow Home & Away Format
The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season will see a return of the home & away format after a three-year hiatus. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the tournament to take place in three venues across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2020.
In 2021, only four cities in India hosted it before the league was postponed and shifted to the UAE. In 2022, the league stage took place in four venues in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Pune with the playoffs being played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans, who lifted the IPL title in their debut year under the leadership of Hardik Pandya will look to defend it as the opening match of the IPL 2023 is slated to be played in Ahmedabad.
