IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Teams That Can Target Dwayne Bravo
CSK released their long-serving player & veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo ahead of IPL 2023 auction.
The four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) parted ways with veteran all-rounder and long-serving player Dwayne Bravo ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction.
The West Indian has been with Chennai Super Kings since 2011 and has won the Purple Cap twice (2013 and 2015). The Yellow Army acquired the services of a Caribbean all-rounder for INR 4.40 Crore in the 2022 IPL Auction.
However, the 39-year-old failed to justify the price tag, having managed to score just 23 runs from 10 matches at a poor average of 11.50. With the ball, he picked up 16 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 8.71.
During his prime, he was regarded as one of the best death bowlers in T20 Cricket. Given his ability to curb down the runs in the death overs, he might become a hot property in the upcoming auction.

On that note, let’s take a look at three IPL franchises that might target the veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction:
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, home to the Royal Challengers of Bangalore, is often seen as a graveyard for bowlers and only a few of them have been successful in controlling the flow of runs.
The Bangalore-based franchise has retained the likes of Mohammad Siraj, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood during the retention window out of which, only Harshal could be trusted in the death overs.
Bravo, with his experience, can add more value to the team’s death bowling. He has been successful in curbing down the run flow even at the toughest deck and it won’t be any different at Chinnaswamy.
2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
The 2016 champions are looking for a major transition ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. They released their IPL 2022 captain Kane Williamson, and Nicholas Pooran ahead of the IPL 2023 auction.
On the bowling front, they have retained the likes of T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jammu pacer Umran Malik. With Natarajan being injury-prone and Bhuvneshwar often leaking runs in death overs, SRH can look to Bravo as their specialist death bowler.
3. Mumbai Indians (MI)
The most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians has looked a pale shadow of the competitive team they have been in the last two years.
The five-time champions have failed to make it to the top four for the straight two seasons. The 2022 edition of the cash-rich tournament, in fact, was a horrendous one, with Mumbai Indians finishing the season at the bottom of the points table.
They signed Jofra Archer for INR 8 Crore in the IPL 2022 auction. However, the English pacer failed to make it to the tournament due to injury. His availability in the upcoming season of the IPL is in jeopardy as well.
In the absence of Jofra Archer, they might look to rope in Dwayne Bravo, who can complement the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs.
