Rajasthan Royals on Friday announced the appointment of Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga as the franchise’s Fast Bowling Coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

In 17 years of international cricket, the right-arm fast bowler represented Sri Lanka in 340 matches across the three formats and picked up 546 wickets. He was also a part of five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, where his tally of 170 wickets in 122 matches is still the highest for any bowler in the history of the lucrative T20 tournament.

The Royals confirmed the development on their official Twitter profile.

The most destructive fast bowler of his time will be working with the likes of Navdeep Saini and Prasidh Krishna among India bowlers, as well as New Zealand’s leading pacer Trent Boult and West Indies’ Obed McCoy at the Rajasthan Royals.

Speaking on his appointment, Malinga said, “It’s a wonderful feeling for me to return to the IPL and an absolute honour to join Rajasthan Royals, a franchise that has always promoted and developed young talent.”

I am excited by the pace bowling unit we have going into the tournament and looking forward to supporting all the fast bowlers with the execution of their game-plans and their overall development. I’ve made some very special memories in the IPL with Mumbai Indians and now with Royals, looking forward to new experiences and creating great memories in this journey,” he added.
