IPL 2021: Player Retention Deadline Set For January 21

The chairman of the Indian Premier League, Brijesh Patel on Thursday stated that the governing council of the league has decided that the all the eight franchises, that are going to participate in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League are allowed to submit the names of their retained players until January 2021.

Earlier this week, a virtual meeting has held in which the members of the governing council discussed the plans and preparations for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.

“We will have the players’ retention till 21 January and the trading window for the franchises closes on 4 February,” Patel, the former India Test batsman told PTI.

At the same time, he also told that the date of the auction has not been decided yet. However, it can be expected to be held in the second or third week of February.

Brijesh Patel also stated that the players’ purse for upcoming auction will not be increased. The eight IPL teams enjoy a players’ purse of Rs 85 crore.

Rajasthan Royals have the maximum purse 14.75 crores, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (10.1 crores), Delhi Capitals (9 crores), Kolkata Knight Riders (8.5 crores), Royal Challengers Bangalore (6.4 crores).

The governing council has not decided the venue for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. They still need a time of one month to decide whether the IPL-2021 will be held in India or not.

“The BCCI will wait for a month to see how the COVID-19 situation is in India before finalising the schedule. Everyone wants it to be held in India but we still need to wait for some more time before taking a call,” PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying.

Notably, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League after being delayed for 5 months was shifted to United Arab Emirates due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic threat in India.
