IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals Rope in Pravin Amre as Assistant Coach For Next Two Seasons

The 52-year-old Pravin Amre, who served as the franchise's head talent scout between 2014-2019, will join the existing coaching staff, headed by Ricky Ponting.

Pravin Amre, on Wednesday, was appointed as the new assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals franchise for the upcoming two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.

The former India cricketer was previously associated with the Delhi-based IPL franchise, for 5 years from 2014-2019, as their Head Talent Scout and has now returned to the setup as to support staff.

Amre will work alongside head coach Ricky Ponting who has been associated with Delhi Capitals for past three years. The former Indian cricketer expressed his gratitude towards the franchise and said he is looking forward to work with Ponting again this time as an assistant coach.

“I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for having me on board. With the team having reached its very first IPL final in 2020, this is certainly an exciting time to be back there. I look forward to working with Ricky again, and all the players,” said Amre, who played 11 Tests and 37 ODIs for India.

The CEO of Delhi Capitals, Dhiraj Malhotra also opened up on the recent development. He looked delighted to have the 52-year-old Amre back in the setup. Young Indian cricketers Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw trained under Amre for the Delhi Capitals.

“Ours is a team with an Indian core, and that thought process applies to our coaching staff as well,” Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra said.

“Few coaches know the domestic cricket scene in India as thoroughly as Amre does. He has been instrumental in getting the likes of Shreyas, Rishabh and Prithvi to our franchise, and his experience will once again be extremely valuable for us.”
