IPL 2021: 3 Players Rajasthan Royals (RR) Can Target in Upcoming IPL Auction
Rajasthan Royals (RR) have the third-highest purse with Rs 34.85 crore after releasing eight players with three foreign spots left for IPL 2021.
With only 7 days left for the IPL 2021 auction, the teams have been busy charting out their finals plans for the mini-auction scheduled to be held on February 18, in Chennai. The franchises have already announced their list of retained and released players for the upcoming season. Now, with only limited time left, let’s take a look at the 3 players Rajasthan Royals can target in the upcoming auction. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have the third-highest purse with Rs 34.85 crore after releasing eight players.
1. Alex Hales
Rajasthan Royals need a top-order batsman or an opener who could give the team a perfect start in the 14th edition of the cash-rich league, and Alex Hales has all the strength and potential to be that player for RR. The English batsman has performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21.
Hales represented Sydney Thunder and ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer. He accumulated 543 runs from 15 games at a brilliant strike-rate of 161.60. He also has one hundred and three half-centuries to his name in BBL 10.
2. Chris Morris
Rajasthan Royals seemed interested in buying Chris Morris last year as they made the opening bid for him in the IPL 2020 auction but they failed to put their hand on him and finally Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) roped him for INR 10 crores. This year, he has been released by RCB.
As witnessed in the 13th edition of the IPL, Jofra Archer was the best bowler in the Rajasthan Royals squad, providing them with crucial breakthroughs consistently. RR will target a top-notch overseas bowler who can provide a helping hand to Archer and take some pressure off him. He is good with the ball in the middle stages and one of the best in the business when it comes to death overs. In addition, he can be good finisher with the bat at times.
3. Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus Labuschagne’s performance in the recently concluded Big Bash League might gain attention from various franchises in the upcoming mini-auction for IPL. As Rajasthan has released Steve Smith this year, they need a skilful middle-order batsman, and Labuschagne could perfectly fit in this scenario.
The 26-year old has shown his tremendous form in the recently concluded series against India and 2020-21 edition of BBL. While playing for Brisbane Heat, Labuschagne accumulated 176 runs at an average of 29.33 from six games.
Labuschagne also picked up 10 wickets in BBL 10 at an average of 14.6. Labuschagne could turn out to be a surprise package for Rajasthan as he gives value in all the three departments.
