IPL 2020: What Spark Did He See In Jadhav And Piyush Chawla- Srikkanth Slammed MS Dhoni
Kris Srikkanth, the former India captain and chairman of selection committee has criticised MS Dhoni after the Chennai Super Kings lost almost every hope of qualifying playoffs as Rajasthan Royals defeated them by seven wickets on Monday. He slammed Dhoni and asked, What spark did he see in Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla.
Kris Srikkanth, the former India captain and chairman of selection committee has criticised MS Dhoni after the Chennai Super Kings lost almost every hope of qualifying playoffs as Rajasthan Royals defeated them by seven wickets on Monday.
It was CSK’s seventh defeat in the tournament, leading them to the bottom of the points table. This is the first time in the history of the IPL that CSK couldn’t make it to the playoffs.
Srikkanth called Dhoni’s selection throughout the season as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘rubbish’. Speaking in the post-match conference, MS Dhoni said that the youngsters in their team had not shown him the kind of ‘spark’ that would have assured their inclusion in the playing 11 of the team.
Srikkanth criticised Dhoni’s statement and also questioned him on the continuous selection of Piyush Chawla and Kedar Jadhav, who he had suggested needed a scooter to move around quickly on the field.
“I will never accept what Dhoni is saying about this process,” Srikkanth told Star Sports Tamil. “This process he keeps talking about is meaningless. You keep talking about process, process… but the process of selection itself is wrong.”
Srikkanth took Jagadeesan’s case to explain his point. He said Jagadeesan had not been given a fair chance in the team. He has played only one game in the ongoing tournament and scored 33 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. On the other hand, Kedar Jadhav, who has been selected continuously in the team has played eight matches making just 62 runs in total. Despite this, he has been given a chance again and again in the team.
Further, he also questioned Piyush Chawla’s presence in the team. He said what kind of ‘spark’ does Dhoni sees in him. Karn Sharma at least took wickets but Chawla simply goes through the ‘motions of bowling’.
“What is Dhoni’s deal? He says Jagadeesan doesn’t have spark but does ‘scooter’ Jadhav have that spark? This is ridiculous. I will not accept this answer today. All this talk of process and Chennai’s tournament itself is over.
“Dhoni now says that since the pressure is off, he’ll give the youngsters a chance. Come on, yaar. I don’t understand this rubbish about the process at all. What spark didn’t he see in Jagadeesan? What spark did he see in Jadhav and Piyush Chawla?
“Karn Sharma at least took wickets. Chawla simply goes through the motions of bowling, coming on when the game is already lost. Dhoni may be a pistha (big shot) and there is no doubt he is great, but I cannot agree with him or accept this.”
