India’s World Cup-Winning Captain Stands by Babar Azam Amid Captaincy Controversy Following Pakistan’s World Cup Exit
Pakistan team failed to make it to the semifinals of the World Cup 2023.
Former Indian cricketer and World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has come out in support of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is under scrutiny after Pakistan failed to make it to the semi-final of the World Cup 2023.
Kapil Dev pointed out that the cricket fraternity tends to fixate on recent performances and overlook past achievements. He mentioned how the cricket world seems to forget Babar Azam’s role in elevating the Pakistan ODI team to the number one ranking.
During a recent conversation with BeerBicpes a.k.a. Ranveer Allahbadia, here’s what Kapil Dev said:
“Today, you are saying that he [Babar Azam] is not a good captain because of the World Cup failure, but he is the same captain who brought the Pakistan team to number one in ODI rankings six months ago.”
“Don’t judge based solely on current performance; assess his approach, observe his consistent play, passion, and talent. Anyone can get out on the first ball they face, but what truly matters is the overall pattern of play and the demonstrated talent over time.”

Babar Azam managed to score 320 runs in nine matches, including four half-centuries. Overall, it was their bowling attack that let them down big time, with pacers like Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi being taken to the cleaners.
