Indian Players, Staff members Test Covid-19 Positive Ahead of West Indies Series: Report
Three Indian players – Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad — have tested positive for Covid-19.
Team India suffered a major blow ahead of the ODI series against West Indies as few Indian players along with some staff members have tested positive for Covid-19.
The team was tested for the deadly virus on Monday when they reached reached Ahmedabad. According to Sportstar, the players were initially tested negative but returned positive in the second RT-PCR result on Wednesday.
If reports are to be believed, Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, batsman Shreyas Iyer are among the few who have returned positive RT-PCR tests on Wednesday. All of them have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad and the BCCI medical team is monitoring the situation.
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal speaking to the news agency ANI confirmed the same, saying, “It has been brought to the notice that some players and some support staff have tested positive for COVID19. BCCI is watching the situation.”
The three-match ODI series against West Indies is scheduled to start from February 6, with all the matches set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
