India vs England 1st T20I– Match Highlights and Scorecard

India defeated England by 7 wickets in the 1st T20I match of the England tour of India 2025.

India began their T20I series against England with a dominating seven-wicket victory at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing a modest target of 133, India completed the task in just 12.5 overs, courtesy of Abhishek Sharma’s breathtaking 79 off 34 balls.

England Struggle to Post a Competitive Total

England, put into bat, faltered against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for just 132 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh struck early, dismissing both openers, Phil Salt (0) and Ben Duckett (4), inside the first three overs. England captain Jos Buttler tried to anchor the innings with a brilliant 68 off 44 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. However, he lacked support as the rest of the batting lineup crumbled.

The Indian spin trio—Varun Chakravarthy (3/23), Axar Patel (2/22), and Ravi Bishnoi—kept England in check during the middle overs. Chakravarthy was especially effective, dismissing Harry Brook (17) and Liam Livingstone (0) in quick succession. Axar cleaned up the lower order, while Hardik Pandya (2/42) chipped in with crucial wickets. England’s innings ended on the final ball, with Mark Wood being run out.

Abhishek Sharma’s Blitz Seals the Game

India’s chase started on a positive note with Sanju Samson (26 off 20) and Abhishek Sharma adding 41 runs in quick time. However, Jofra Archer dismissed Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (0) in the same over to give England a glimmer of hope.

Abhishek, undeterred, continued to attack. The left-hander smashed 5 fours and 8 sixes, scoring at a strike rate of 232.35. He brought up his half-century off just 20 balls, dispatching Jamie Overton for a massive six. By the time he fell in the 12th over, India were only eight runs away from victory.

Tilak Varma (19*) and Hardik Pandya (3*) ensured there were no further hiccups, guiding India to a comfortable win with 43 balls to spare.
