The incident took place on Day 1 when Seales fielded the ball in his follow-through and threw it toward Jaiswal, striking him on the pads.

The left-hander was well inside his crease at the time, prompting immediate concern from the Indian dressing room.

According to the ICC, Seales breached Article 2.9 of its Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing a ball in an “inappropriate and/or dangerous manner” during an international match.

Match referee Andy Pycroft reviewed the footage and concluded that the throw was unnecessary and unsafe.

Seales argued that he was attempting a run-out, but the referee disagreed after checking the replays from multiple angles. The 24-year-old, therefore, received a formal reprimand along with a 25% fine on his match fees.

On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, along with TV umpire Alex Wharf and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan, reported the incident.

The ICC noted that it was a Level 1 offence, which can lead to a fine of up to 50% of match fees and a maximum of two demerit points.

This is Seales’ second offence within two years, taking his total tally to two demerit points. His previous one came during a Test against Bangladesh in December 2024.

Meanwhile, on the field, India continue to dominate the Test after posting 518/5 in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav picked a five-wicket haul to bowl out the visitors for 248 before India enforced the follow-on.
