IND vs WI: ‘He deserves better’ – BCCI Faces Backlash from Fans as Rinku Singh Misses Out on West Indies T20I Squad Selection
IND vs WI - BCCI announced the squad for the five-match T20I series against West Indies with Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Tilak Varma got their maiden T20I call-up.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, July 6 announced the squad for the five-match T20I series against West Indies.
Taking into consideration the workload, the team management has opted to rest senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In their absence, Hardik Pandya will lead the team, with Suryakumar Yadav assuming the role of vice-captain.
The overall selection was quite satisfactory, as deserving players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Tilak Varma who showcased their skills in the IPL and domestic tournaments were duly acknowledged with their maiden T20I call-up.
However, there was one notable omission that surprised many: Rinku Singh, despite his exceptional IPL season, was not chosen by the selectors. The Uttar Pradesh batter smashed 474 runs in IPL 2023 at a staggering strike rate of 150 and an average of 59.25.
Furthermore, he has been a reliable run-scorer in domestic cricket, impressing with his performances for Uttar Pradesh. In a total of 89 matches played, he has amassed an impressive tally of 1768 runs at a strike rate of 140 and an average of 30.48.
Given the ongoing transition phase within the Indian cricket team, particularly in the shortest format, the inclusion of a finisher of Rinku Singh’s calibre would have been valuable. Known for his ability to thrive under pressure, he possesses the skills to single-handedly turn the tide of a match.
Fans have expressed their disappointment over Rinku Singh being left out of the team. Here are a selection of reactions reflecting their sentiments:
