IND vs SL: Virat Kohli Goes Past Mahela Jayawardene To Become Fifth-Highest Run-Scorer In ODIs

Virat Kohli surpassed Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene to take fifth position on the list of highest run-scorers in ODIs.

India’s batting maverick Virat Kohli has broken another record after overtaking Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the fifth-highest run-getter in One-Day Internationals.

Before this game, the former Indian captain was just 63 runs away from surpassing Jayawardene’s run-tally of 12,650 runs, which he achieved in 418 ODI innings. 

Meanwhile, the Delhi batter took just 249 ODI innings to unlock the achievement. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 18,426 runs from 463 ODIs at an average of 44.83 with 49 centuries and 96 fifties.

Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara stands second in the tally with 14,234 runs and he is followed by Australia’s legendary batter Ricky Ponting (13,704) and Sri Lankan’s Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430).

Meanwhile, Kohli is the only batter in this elite list who has an average of over 50. Sachin had an average of 44.83, Sangakkara averaged 41.98 while Ponting and Jayasuriya ended their ODI careers with an average of 42.03 and 32.36 respectively.
