IND vs NZ: New Zealand Register Unwanted Record In Second ODI Against India

New Zealand suffered a crushing eight-wicket at the expense of team India in the second ODI of a three-match series on Friday, January 21 at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.

After being asked to bat first, New Zealand was bundled out for just 108 runs in 34.3 overs, with Glenn Phillips scoring the most at 36 runs off 52 deliveries and Mitchell Santner scoring 27 runs.

India’s pace bowlers were brilliant with Mohammad Shami taking three wickets, Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar scalping two each, and Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav getting a brace apiece.

Apart from the humiliating defeat, New Zealand also set an unwanted record by losing their first five wickets for only 15 runs in 11 overs, the lowest score after five batters had been dismissed.

Their previous worst was 18 runs, which they achieved against Sri Lanka back in 2001 in Colombo. The likes of Chaminda Vaas, Dilhara Fernando, and Kumar Dharmasena bowled the Kiwis out for 115 runs in the run-chase of 222 runs.

As for the match, India’s thumping win was led by captain Rohit Sharma’s flamboyant half-century and Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 40-run knock. With this win, India took an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the series.
