IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Makes 430 in a Single Test, Breaks Legendary Gavaskar Record

Shubman Gill breaks Sunil Gavaskar’s 54-year-old record with 430 runs in a single Test match vs England at Edgbaston.

Shubman Gill has achieved something no Indian batter has done in over five decades. The young skipper smashed 430 runs across both innings in the second Test at Edgbaston, breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s long-standing record of 344 runs in a single Test match.

Gill scored a brilliant 269 in the first innings and followed it up with a commanding 161 in the second. With this, he became just the second Indian, after Gavaskar in 1971, to score a double-century and a hundred in the same Test match.

The 54-year-old record was set by Gavaskar against the West Indies when he made 124 and 220 in Port of Spain. Gill has now gone past that, and in style.

India set 608-run target for England

India declared at 427 for 6 on Day 4, taking their overall lead to 607 runs. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69, giving India the final push before the declaration.

England, led by Ben Stokes, are known for chasing big totals, but this one looks out of reach. With more than a day left, India now have a strong chance to level the five-match series 1-1.
