IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Becomes First Cricketer in 148 Years to Achieve Rare Double in Test Cricket
Shubman Gill becomes first-ever cricketer to score a double century and 150+ in the same Test match during Edgbaston Test.

Shubman Gill is rewriting history at Edgbaston. The young Indian captain has become the first cricketer in 148 years of Test cricket to score a double century and a 150-plus knock in the same match.
Gill hit 269 runs in the first innings, followed by a blistering 161 in the second. No other batter in Test history has ever managed to combine such big scores across both innings of a single match.
This puts Gill in a league of his own. With his second innings knock, Gill also joined another elite list. He became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to register a double hundred and a century in the same Test match.
India pile up 608-run target
Gill’s 161 came off just 162 balls, packed with 13 fours and 8 sixes. His aggressive approach gave India total control in the match.
He had solid support from Rishabh Pant, who smashed 65 off 58 balls. Together, they added 110 runs for the fourth wicket.
KL Rahul earlier chipped in with 55 runs, looking elegant throughout his innings. But his knock was cut short by a beauty from Josh Tongue that knocked over the middle stump.
Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69 from 118 balls. He stitched a 175-run stand with Gill for the fifth wicket, helping India declare at 427 for 6.
India had already secured a lead of 180 runs in the first innings. So, by the end of their second innings, England were staring at a massive target of 608 runs.
India’s push for victory began quickly, with Mohammed Siraj removing Zak Crawley for a 7-ball duck. England’s chase looked shaky from the start.
Shubman Gill’s rare record, big runs, and bold captaincy have made this one of the most memorable Test performances by an Indian cricketer on English soil.
