IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant to be Banned from 2nd Test? Indian Keeper Batter’s Angry Outburst on Umpire May Lead to Suspension

Rishabh Pant faces possible ICC action for dissent after ball-throwing incident on Day 3 of Headingley Test

India’s third day in the first Test at Headingley turned tense after a series of frustrating moments for the visiting side, especially behind the stumps.

While England kept adding crucial runs, an incident involving Rishabh Pant has sparked controversy and could lead to serious consequences.

Pant Shows Frustration Over Ball Condition

By the 60th over, the Indian players, especially captain Shubman Gill and senior bowler Jasprit Bumrah, were unhappy with the shape of the ball. The skipper approached the on-field umpires and requested a change of ball, but the appeal was rejected. Bumrah’s pleas too were turned down.

What happened next quickly caught attention, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant approached the umpire for an explanation. After the discussion didn’t go his way, he threw the ball down in anger during the 61st over, an action captured live and now widely circulated on social media.

What Pant Might Be Penalised For

Pant’s act might have violated two major ICC codes:

Article 2.8: Showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.

This includes excessive visible disappointment or arguing with the umpire, both of which could be treated as Level 1 or Level 2 offences.

Article 2.9: Throwing the ball in an inappropriate or aggressive manner.

This too could result in either a Level 1 or 2 breach, depending on how the officials view the severity of the act.

If charged, Pant could face a fine, demerit points, or even a one-match ban, putting his participation in the 2nd Test in danger.

Wasted Review Adds to Frustration

To make things worse, moments later, Pant urged Gill to take a review for a caught behind appeal off Prasidh Krishna.

However, replays showed there was no spike on UltraEdge. With just one review left, the decision may come back to hurt India in this tight contest.

The Indian team will now wait to see whether the match referee takes any action on Pant’s behaviour, with fans hoping the incident doesn’t cost India a key player in the next match.
