IND vs ENG: Joe Root Equal’s Rahul Dravid’s Special Test Record
Joe Root equals Rahul Dravid’s record for most Test catches (210); just one away from becoming the top fielder in history

Joe Root might not have scored big in the first Test against India at Headingley, but he made his presence felt with his fielding.
The England batter took his 210th Test catch during the match, joining former Indian legend Rahul Dravid at the top of the all-time list.
This catch came in the second innings, and with that, Root now has the most catches by any outfielder in Test cricket – jointly with Dravid.
Joe Root’s Safe Hands Stand Out
While England’s fielding in this game saw a few dropped chances, Root remained reliable. He grabbed one catch in each innings. These catches were important too, as England tried to stop India from running away with the game.
Root has taken 210 catches in just 154 matches, which is 10 fewer than what Dravid played in his Test career. That’s what makes this feat even more special.
Top 5 Fielders in Test History (by catches)
- Joe Root – 210*
- Rahul Dravid – 210
- Mahela Jayawardene – 205
- Steve Smith – 200
- Jacques Kallis – 200
Now, Root needs just one more catch to go clear at the top and become the No. 1 catcher in Test history.
