IND vs ENG| India Can’t Outspin Us, We’ve Good Spinners in Our Squad: Jofra Archer’s Warning to Team India

India will host England for a full-fledged tour in February and March. The first Test of the tour will begin on February 5th with India and England locking horns in Chennai. Both teams are high on confidence after winning their respective Test series against Australia and Sri Lanka. With the matches being played in India, spin is expected to play a big role during the Test series.

Ahead of the 4-match Test series which starts from February 5, England pacer Jofra Archer has said that India will not be able to out-spin his side. The 25-year-old added that England Test squad has quality spinners in it.

The Test series will be Archer’s first assignment in the longest format of the game in the subcontinent, and he admitted that there will be challenges initially.

“I’ve played lots of Indian Premier League here but nothing in terms of first-class cricket, so the challenges of bowling with a red ball will become clearer.

“In the IPL the batters have to come at you, whereas in Test cricket they can sit on you for a full session if they want and if the pitch is dead there is nothing you can do about it.

“So let’s hope we get some good wickets with a little bit of pace for the bowlers.

“Or even some turn, because if they spin, the matches will not be one-sided. We have good spinners in our squad and India won’t out-spin us,” Archer wrote for Daily Mail.

England come to India after a resounding 2-0 clean sweep victory against Sri Lanka, where the side rested a number of first-team players including Archer. Talking about England’s rotation policy, Archer said that the bowlers require rest to be able to perform at their best.

“I know that Stuart Broad talked about playing two of six Test matches this winter because the conditions do not necessarily suit fast bowlers and, similarly, if I play two against India I will be happy,” Archer wrote.

“As an attack, we must get used to more rotation and it feels good that any one of us can walk away from the team knowing that whoever comes in as our replacement will perform.”

Notably, India will be missing the services of Ravindra Jadeja but they will be glad to have R Ashwin back in the squad after he missed the fourth Test in Brisbane with a back injury. He is the leading wicket-taker for India and is one of the most dangerous bowlers on spinning tracks.

The last time England toured India, the performance of the spinners was the major difference although India romped to a 4-0 win in the five-Test series.

While the Indian spinners took 68 wickets at an average of 30.35, their English counterparts took 40 at 48.1.
