IND vs ENG: Gautam Gambhir Approaches CSK Pacer for Test Debut in Manchester Test
Anshul Kamboj likely to debut in 4th Test vs England as Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh remain doubtful due to injuries.
India might hand out another Test cap in the ongoing England tour. As per a report in The Times of India, Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj is likely to make his Test debut in the fourth match of the five-Test series. The match will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23.
Injury Opens the Door for Kamboj
The 24-year-old fast bowler joined the Indian squad as a replacement for Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep, both of whom are nursing injuries. While Arshdeep was ruled out earlier, Akash Deep walked off the field during the third Test at Lord’s. His fitness is still under doubt.
Anshul is now expected to slot straight into the playing XI. He could be preferred over Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur, especially considering his recent red-ball form.
Solid Domestic Track Record
Anshul has been one of the standout performers in the domestic circuit. In 24 first-class matches, he has taken 79 wickets and scored 486 runs. He was also impressive for India A against the England Lions last month.
In the second unofficial Test, he picked up two wickets in each innings and chipped in with an unbeaten 51 as a lower-order batter. That innings, coming at No. 9, showed his value as a handy all-round option.
He made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2024 and was part of Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season.
India Still Winless in Manchester
India have never won a Test at Old Trafford. In nine attempts over 89 years, the visitors are yet to beat England in Manchester. The last time the two sides met here, rain had the final say.
