IND vs ENG 2nd Test: India Crush England by 336 Runs to Seal First Test Win at Edgbaston
India crush England by 336 runs for first-ever Test win at Edgbaston, led by Gill's 430 runs and Akash Deep’s 10 wickets

India made history at Edgbaston, beating England by 336 runs to level the five-match series 1-1. It was India’s first-ever Test win at the venue, coming after eight previous failed attempts.
Led by captain Shubman Gill, Akash Deep & Mohammed Siraj, the team put on a complete show with both bat and ball.
Former India captain Virat Kohli praised the team’s performance on social media, posting,
“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch.”
Gill Leads from the Front, Akash Deep Steps Up
India were asked to bat first and made the most of it, piling up 587 runs. Gill led the charge with a brilliant double century, while the lower middle order also chipped in with important runs.
This was Gill’s first win as Test captain, and he was named Player of the Match for his scores of 259 and 161. With three hundreds in his first two Tests as captain, Gill’s batting average jumped from 35 to the 40s.
“It feels good, but more so because we executed everything we planned after the Leeds loss,” Gill said after the match. “The bowling, the fielding spot on.”
With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, Akash Deep grabbed his chance. The 27-year-old pacer exploited nip and skiddiness, taking 4/88 in the first innings and a maiden five-wicket haul with 6/99 in the second.
He also took the final wicket, removing Brydon Carse, caught by Gill at cover. Teammates rushed to surround him as India sealed the historic win.
England Crumble Twice
England started both innings poorly, collapsing to 84/5 in the first and 83/5 in the second. While Jamie Smith showed some fight, even hitting Akash Deep for two sixes, he too fell to a clever off-cutter.
England pacers couldn’t get the same help from the surface, while India’s bowlers, especially with the new ball, kept finding movement.
At the post-match presentation, Ben Stokes admitted,
“When you’re 200/5, you expect to take control. But we couldn’t break through. Shubman had an unbelievable game.”
India’s 336-run win is now their biggest away Test victory by runs, beating the previous record of 318 runs vs West Indies in 2016.
At 25 years and 301 days, Shubman Gill also became the youngest Indian captain to win a Test overseas, beating Sunil Gavaskar’s record from 1976.
Next up, the teams head to Lord’s, where Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return. And with momentum on India’s side, the series is well and truly alive.
