IND vs BAN: Shakib Al Hasan Takes 5-Fer to Script History Against India in ODIs

Shakib al Hasan's five-wicket haul helped Bangladesh restrict India to 186 in the first ODI.

Shakib al Hasan dismantled India’s batting order to become the first Bangladesh spinner to take a five-wicket haul against India in One-day internationals during the series opener in Dhaka on Sunday, December 4.

Shakib first bowled Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the second ball of his opening over, before getting Kohli to hit into extra cover two balls later where captain Liton Das pulled off a sensational one-handed catch.

Later, he came back and demolished the lower order of the visitors by picking quick wickets of Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar. With this, he also became only the 8th spinner in the history of ODIs to take a five-wicket haul against India.

Following his stellar bowling performance, Shakib has now joined an elite list of Shakib Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Muttiah Muralidaran, Ashley Giles, Ajantha Mendis, Saeed Ajmal, and Akila Dhananjaya, who had taken five-wicket hauls against India in ODIs.

Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain also picked a four-wicket haul to wrap things up for Bangladesh early. Mehidy Hasan Mirza also scalped a wicket as India was bowled out for their 2nd lowest total ever against Bangladesh in ODIs.
