IND vs AUS: Would Agree if Team Management Picks Pant in Place of Saha in Remaining Tests – Former India Chief Selector MSK Prasad
Former chief selector MSK Prasad has backed the team management to select Rishabh Pant as India's wicket-keeper for the remainder of the Test series
Former chief selector MSK Prasad backed Rishabh Pant for the team management to select Rishabh Pant as India’s wicket-keeper for the remainder of the Test series.
Prasad said he would completely agree with the team management if they pick Rishabh Pant ahead of Wriddhiman Saha as the wicket-keeper for the last three Tests against the hosts.
Saha was preferred over Rishabh Pant as the wicket-keeper batsman in the series opener against the hosts in Adelaide and he eventually failed in providing the best to his side with the bat.
Prasad said that their committee (back when he was the chief selector) had decided that Pant would be their first choice wicketkeeper while playing in England and Australia.
“Look, our committee was clear that Rishabh Pant will be our first choice keeper in places like England and Australia. Only when we are looking at matches in India where you don’t need batting after number six most times, you can have a specialist keeper,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
“I believe Rishabh has worked on his fitness issues during the past month and looked in good touch during the pink ball practice game. So I would agree with the team management if they give Rishabh a go for the next three Tests,” the former wicket-keeper batsman added.
Can Team India Stage a Comeback at The MCG’
In the last three Tests, India would we without their regular captain Virat Kohli. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane is all set to lead the team with 4 changes to the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test, starting December 26 after the 8-wicket drubbing in the series opener in Adelaide.
This will be a must-win clash for India as a loss here would mean that the hosts end up taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
