Australia batsman Steve Smith has taken a shot at his critics after hitting his 27th Test hundred on Friday and said that there is a difference between out-of-form and out-of-run.

Australian batsman Steve Smith, who failed to score runs in the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests smashed a brilliant hundred on the second day of the Sydney Test. With this hundred, he equalled the Indian captain, Virat Kohli with a 27th century in Tests. At the same time, he became the second-fastest batsman in the world to achieve this feat.

Steve Smith, who smashed a half-century off 116 balls, completed his century off the 200th ball. With the help of 13 fours against India, Smith completed his 27th Test century against India. Notably, this is his first century in the Test since September 2019. His last hundred came against England in Manchester in 2019, where he smashed 211.

After the end of the innings, Smith answered back to his critics and said that there was a difference between out-of-form and out-of-run. He added that he was hopeful that this innings would keep “a few people quiet”.

“I am reading lots of things people say about out of form, but think there is a difference between out of form and out of the run. So it was nice to score a few and maybe keep a few people quiet,” Steve Smith said.

The record for the fastest 27 centuries in Test cricket is in the name of legendary Australian batsman Don Bradman. He had scored 27 Test centuries in just 70 innings. Smith has now moved up to second place in this list, leaving behind current Indian captain Virat Kohli and former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Both Kohli and Sachin’s batsmen did so in 141 innings, while Smith scored his 27th Test century in 136th innings.

Smith has equalled Virat’s 27 centuries in Test cricket. At the moment, both batsmen have got an equal Test century. In this list, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Australian opener David Warner are in second place with 24 -24 centuries. Ross Taylor of New Zealand has scored 19 while Cheteshwar Pujara of India has 18 centuries in his name.
