IND vs AUS: Cameron Green Will Play ODIs Only if he Can Bowl Few Overs – Justin Langer
Australia coach Justin Langer says Cameron Green's batting could earn him a spot in Test XI but he will need to bowl to debut in the ODI series.
Australian head coach Justin Langer has revealed how the new Australia’s veteran all-rounder Cameron Green will get a chance in the three-match ODI series against India. Coach Langer has said that Green will be given a chance in the ODI series only when he bowls a few overs. The coach justified his opinion that if Green bowled a few overs, it would give the right balance to the team led by Aaron Finch.
The series of the three formats between India and Australia is, to begin with the three-match ODI series. In such a situation, both teams will want to retain the one-day series, which will be played under the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. The first ODI between India and host Australia will be played in Sydney on 27 November.
“In one-day cricket, he will only play if he can bowl a few overs because that is how we will set up the team. He has not had the white-ball experience to come in as a pure batsman but if he can bowl a few overs, my gosh he becomes a good prospect,” cricket.com.au quoted Langer as saying.
At the same time, Langer also said that Cameron Green can be selected in the Test team based on his batting. Green’s bowling will not make much difference if he has to be picked in the Test team.
“But Test cricket is different. He has earned the right to play Test cricket on his batting. I love watching him bat. For such a tall batsman, he has got so much time,” said Langer.
The four-match Test series between India and hosts Australia will begin in Adelaide from 17 December.
As long as team India is concerned, they have already reached Sydney and started training under quarantine. India captain Virat Kohli will play an only first Test match in Adelaide and will fly back to India to attend the birth of his first child which is expected to arrive in January.
