ICC Test Rankings: Virat Kohli Climbs to Second Spot, Jasprit Bumrah Highest Ranked Indian Bowler
In the latest Test rankings New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has dropped to the third spot after sharing the second rank with his India counterpart Virat Kohli for a while.
Indian captain Virat Kohli has moved up to second place in the latest ICC Test rankings for batsmen released on Tuesday, while Cheteshwar Pujara is at seventh and Ajinkya Rahane at 10th. Kohli leads the Indian batsmen with 886 rating points, but he is behind Australian batsman Steve Smith (911 points).
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has slipped to third place. The rankings have been released after the conclusion of the second Test between New Zealand and West Indies, which Williamson missed to be with his pregnant wife Sarah Raheem.
Kane Williamson is followed by Australia’s young batsman Marnus Labuchagne, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Australia star batsman David Warner, who is currently injured and has ruled out of the first Test against India on December 17.
Pujara is seventh on the list with 766 points. He is followed by Ben Stokes (760), Joe Root (738) and Indian Test vice-captain Rahane (726) among the top-10 batsmen.
Indian fast bowling leader Jasprit Bumrah (779 points) and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (756) are in eighth and 10th position in the bowling rankings respectively. Australia’s Pat Cummins (904) tops the list. He is followed by England’s Stuart Broad and New Zealand’s Neil Wagner. Notably, Ashwin is the only spinner in the top 10 list of bowlers.
Two players from India – Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin are in the top-10 in the list of all-rounders, while England’s Ben Stokes continues to be the top-ranked all-rounder.
While Ravindra Jadeja is third behind Jason Holder of the West Indies with 397 points, Ashwin has 281 points and is in sixth place. India is currently third in the rankings for Test teams as New Zealand have recently moved up to the second place with a 2–0 win over West Indies.
India has 114 points and is two points behind New Zealand and table-toppers Australia, who both have 116 points but the Aussies are ahead on decimal points. England is placed fourth ahead of Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. However, India will have a chance to progress through the four-match Test series against Australia starting in Adelaide.
