ICC Takes Disciplinary Action, Wanindu Hasaranga Suspended

ICC Suspended Wanindu Hasaranga in a disciplinary action for two matches

In a significant disciplinary action, Sri Lanka’s T20I captain, Wanindu Hasaranga, has been suspended for two matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to accumulated demerit points.

This incident follows his latest infraction of the ICC Code of Conduct, resulting in a fine equivalent to 50% of his match fee and the imposition of three demerit points.

The violation in question pertained to Wanindu Hasaranga’s contravention of article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, notably involving personal abuse directed towards a player, player support personnel, umpire, or match referee during an international match.

Having accumulated five demerit points, Hasaranga now faces the conversion to two suspension points, resulting in a ban from either one Test match or two ODIs or T20Is, depending on the format of his next appearances. Subsequently, he will be missing from Sri Lanka’s upcoming first two T20Is against Bangladesh.
