“I Was Furious!” – AB de Villiers Tears Into IPL Commentators for Always Targeting RCB

AB de Villiers slammed IPL commentators for blaming RCB bowlers, calling their analysis lazy and unfair.

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has strongly criticised the IPL 2025 commentators for unfairly targeting Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowlers during their final league match against Lucknow Super Giants.

RCB chased down 228 with ease at the Ekana Stadium, but some experts on-air focused only on their bowling weaknesses instead of the high-scoring conditions.

De Villiers, who played 11 seasons for RCB, said he was “so angry” while listening to the commentary during the game. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said that the broadcasters were too negative and did not analyse the match properly.

“I listened to the commentators last night, and honestly, it got me so angry. They were so negative when we were bowling. They kept saying, ‘RCB’s bowling is under pressure. They don’t look like they’re going to manage it.’ But maybe it was just a really good batting wicket, guys?” he said.

The former RCB star pointed out that the pitch in Lucknow was very helpful for batting. He reminded everyone that both Rishabh Pant and Jitesh Sharma scored big runs, which shows it wasn’t just about poor bowling.

De Villiers felt the commentary was lazy and repeated the same old things about RCB not winning the IPL. He urged experts to understand the match situation better instead of sticking to past records.

“Yes, RCB have never won a title, but it’s lazy to keep saying, ‘Here we go again. The bowlers are failing, they’re useless,’ without properly analysing what’s happening on the field,” he added.

He also admitted that some bowlers had a tough time but blamed the pitch more than the performance.

“Yes, there was some poor bowling at times. But ultimately, one must look at the bigger picture—227 runs on a wicket that typically doesn’t support such batting suggests it was simply a very good surface.”

RCB will now focus on their next big game against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 29 at Mullanpur. A win will take them straight to the IPL 2025 final.
