I Took Inspiration From MS Dhoni, Says Australia Batswoman Grace Harris

Australian women’s cricket team batswoman Grace Harris has praised former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and says she takes inspiration from him and loves to watch him play. Grace Harris has also called MS Dhoni a great ‘match finisher’.

In fact, Grace Harris scored an excellent knock of 53 off 37 balls against Perth Scorchers in the opening match of the sixth season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) on Saturday. His explosive innings helped the Brisbane Heat beat the Perth Scorchers by seven wickets.

“I’ve been watching a lot of MS Dhoni’s innings really, I took a bit of inspiration from him,” Harris was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Dhoni announced his retirement from International Cricket in August. He is considered as one of the best captains and finishers of all the time.

“He (Dhoni) is a fantastic finisher of the game and he might get behind but at the end of the day, they win games and he’s ahead of the count. I’m definitely hoping to do something similar to that,” Harris said.

After a slow start, 11 off 18, she set her eyes in and then took charge against the Perth bowlers. The 27-year-old knew that she can always catch up with the game as long as she sticks to her plan of rotating the strike.

“I can catch up, it doesn’t matter how many dot balls I have – it’s not ideal and you want to rotate the strike as much as possible – but in situations like today where I struggle early, it’s (about) remaining in a calm mindset,” she said.

MS Dhoni has finished hundreds of matches from domestic level to international level, not one or two. However, he has now retired from international cricket and currently he is playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.
