‘I Just Want To Be Me’ – Dhruv Jurel’s Sharp Reply To Sunil Gavaskar’s Comparison To Dhoni
Sunil Gavaskar had compared Dhruv Jurel to MS Dhoni during India vs England Test series
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar compared Dhruv Jurel to the former Indian captain and wicket-keeper MS Dhoni during the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England.
Dhruv Jurel, who debuted during the third match in Rajkot, made a sensational start with a crucial innings of 46 (104). However, it was in the fourth Test that the Agra-born cricketer truly shone, playing a heroic knock of 90 in the first innings to rescue India from a perilous position of 177/7.
The Uttar Pradesh batter followed up with an unbeaten 39* in the fourth innings, guiding India to chase down a challenging target of 192. As a result of his outstanding performance, he was named Player of the Match, leading India to a commanding 3-1 series lead.
However, during a recent event, Jurel responded humbly to the praise by thanking Gavaskar for his appreciation. Nonetheless, the young cricketer acknowledged that no one can emulate Dhoni’s achievements on the field; there can only be one Dhoni.
“Thank you so much Gavaskar sir for comparing me with Dhoni sir. But I want to say personally that no one can replicate what Dhoni sir has done. There is only one Dhoni. Always was and always will be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to do as Dhruv Jurel. But Dhoni sir is a legend and he will always remain like that,” said Jurel at India Today Conclave.
Jurel finished the series with 190 runs from four innings, at an average of 63.33 and notching up one half-century. Additionally, he showcased his prowess behind the stumps, claiming five catches and executing two stumpings, including a brilliant prediction to dismiss Ollie Pope during the fifth Test.
