Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was the key batter for Australia throughout the T20 World Cup 2021. Having promoted to number 3 in Australia’s line, Marsh top-scored with 77 not out to help Australia chase down 173 for the loss of just 2 wickets after they restricted New Zealand to 172 for 4 in Dubai.

The 30-year-old joined hands with David Warner (53) to add 92 runs for the second wicket to push their side to a 8-wicket victory over New Zealand. Marsh was also adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.

Marsh, in the post-match conference revealed how their coaching staff offered him to bat at number 3 in West Indies against T20I series.

“Lot of people say this but I really don’t have words right now. An amazing six weeks with this group.

“Coaching staff came up to me in the WI and said you’ll bat three for this tournament. I jumped at the opportunity. Not a whole lot of thinking that goes into that (first ball for six).

“Just wanted to go out there and have a presence. Big Marcus Stoinis always talks about having a presence. I wanted to have a presence, be in the contest, go out there and play my game. It’s unbelievable.”

For New Zealand, Kane Williamson top scored, having smashed 85 off 48 balls to help his side post a respectable score of 172-4 at the Dubai International Stadium.
